The Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) National Construction College (NCC) has achieved a rating of ‘expected standard’ across all key judgement areas in its latest Ofsted inspection.
The outcome reflects the introduction of Ofsted’s more rigorous inspection framework, which has raised expectations for training providers across the further education sector. Achieving ‘expected standard’ confirms that NCC is meeting these higher benchmarks and delivering training that meets Ofsted’s requirements for quality and effectiveness.
The inspection found that apprentices are thriving in their training, progressing quickly and gaining confidence in applying their skills both during training and in the workplace.
The result also marks an important step forward for NCC following its previous ‘requires improvement’ grade in 2023, recognising the progress made in strengthening teaching standards and improving outcomes for learners. The improvements have contributed to strong achievement rates and sustained employment within the construction industry.
Ofsted also highlighted the close collaboration between CITB, employers and industry stakeholders in shaping apprenticeship programmes. This partnership approach helps ensure that training reflects current industry priorities and that apprentices develop the technical, digital and professional skills valued by employers.
Kirsty Evans, Executive Director for Education and Training at CITB, said the result demonstrates the progress made by the National Construction College and the commitment of staff and industry partners to improving standards.
CITB has emphasised that it remains focused on continuing to raise the quality of training and ensuring apprentices are equipped with the skills required by the evolving construction sector.
