The Cheesegrater
Designed by the prestigious Rogers, Stirk, Harbour & Partners, The Cheesegrater is a striking and dynamic addition to London’s skyline. The 610,000 sq ft development tapers over 47 storeys and is 736 ft (224m) tall. It has been provided with two telescopic building maintenance units (BMUs), plus bespoke cradles ranging from 3m to 9m with the capacity to lift glass weighing up to 2000kg.
Using Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, SAEMA member, Gatwick-based Integral Cradles, engineered an innovative delivery strategy that harnessed the benefits of offsite storage and pre-assembly. The ‘virtual construction’ approach adopted by Integral allowed the client to visualise the proposed access solution in advance and provided key information for the ongoing maintenance and life-cycle of the systems.
