SAEMA – Specialist Access Engineering and Maintenance Association – has a long history in delivering the best training and guidance in the temporary and permanent suspended access industry.
In keeping with our commitment to advancing safety through raising the standards in best practice, we keep in touch with all the latest developments – chiefly safety, worker welfare and the environment. We are pleased to share the following from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
The CITB has made changes to the grants scheme available to all CITB-registered employers. This means that SAEMA members can benefit from CITB’s grants, which provide financial support for employers that offer construction-specific training to their workforce.
The CITB’s latest Construction Skills Network report highlights that 224,900 workers will be required over the next five years to meet the demands of the construction industry. To help employers tackle the skills shortage of workers across the industry and to address rising costs, changes have been made to grants available from April 2023.
As part of these changes, the CITB has doubled the grant rates for short courses. Employers can now receive a grant of up to £240 when an individual successfully completes a short course from 1st April 2023.
The CITB has also increased grant rates to support individuals impacted by the withdrawal of the industry accreditation card. Grant rates for specific supervision and management qualifications have increased to £1,250 and £1,500 for achievements from 1st April 2023.
It is hoped that these changes to the grants scheme will encourage more employers to upskill their workforce and help address the industry’s skills shortage.
